Between vocal ranges - from Corsica to Szászcsávás

In this concert series of the House of Music Hungary, two worlds meet on the evening of the Ensemble Tavagna of Corsica and the St. Ephrem's male choir of Budapest. On the island of Corsica, geographical isolation and twists and turns of history have developed a unique singular polyphony over the centuries. This unparalleled tradition was saved from the brink of extinction by the revival in the 1970s. Ensemble Tavagna is one of the best in the genre and performs for the first time in Hungary.

Today, one of the main cornerstones of Corsican cultural identity is the polyphonic singing style, which has its roots in church music, but the repertoire of the choirs is also rich in secular melodies. These special, emotional, heartbreaking melodies are rarely to be heard in Hungary. One of the outstanding representatives of the genre, the Ensemble Tavagna, which has existed for more than forty years, will perform for the first time in Hungary at House of Music Hungary in a joint concert with the St. Ephrem Men's Choir. The group is also known from the film The Great Chaos in Corsica, in which the complexity of Corsican choral music is presented to the fullest. The St. Ephrem Men's Choir is one of the most outstanding domestic ensembles of polyphony singing, which since its inception in 2002 has staged the most beautiful pieces of church music or traditional polyphonic pieces in the world with great success, both at home and abroad.

Who do we recommend it to?

For lovers of polyphony; for those interested in traditional church and secular vocal music.

The concert will be preceded by Artist Talk from 18:45, which can be visited free of charge with a concert ticket.
