Ferenc Snétberger and Gilles Apap featuring the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra

The House of Music Hungary opens its doors to the city several times a year, and this time we are offering you an insight into the musical life of the city of Veszprém through a series of special concerts and one-off events over several weeks.

Ferenc Snétberger's guitar concerto For my People is an uplifting anthem of hope for the end of human suffering, a personal confession written in memory of the Roma and Sinti victims of the Holocaust. The three-movement work is inspired by the emotional music of the Roma tradition. Snétberger has performed it in many places around the world, including at the United Nations headquarters in New York, then again with the Veszprém based Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra. At Gilles Apap's exhilarating concerts, the audience often doesn't even know when the classical repertoire piece is due to start – for example, tonight's Mozart Violin Concerto in A major - because in his hands we embark on a musical journey around the globe before we suddenly realise that Mozart's music has been playing for some time.

VESZPRÉMFEST

The VeszprémFest is a music festival that does not commit itself to a single musical genre, but aims to present the best of each genre at the highest international level and quality, thus attracting music fans from all over Hungary and the neighbouring countries to the city. Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum, Diana Krall, José Cura, Nigel Kennedy, Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, Richard Bona, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Jan Garbarek, Andrea Rost, Erika Miklósa, Ramon Vargas...

THE AUER FESZTIVÁL

The music festival, organised by the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra and bearing the name of Lipót Auer, aims to bring artists who are major players on the international classical music scene to Auer's hometown, picturesque Veszprém. Since 2015, world-famous musicians such as Gidon Kremer, Maxim Vengerov, Vadim Repin, Mischa Maisky, the Borogyin String Quartet, Yuri Bashmet, Zoltán Kocsis, Péter Frankl, Kristóf Baráti, Barnabás Kelemen, Dezső Ránki, the Keller Quartet and others have all performed in Veszprém.
