LEENALCHI (KOR) | Дeva

LEENALCHI is the latest sensation to come from the phenomenally popular and forward-thinking South Korean pop music scene of the past decade, an alternative pop band that crosses traditional music with forward-thinking pop music solutions. The House of Music Hungary will host a production from the K-pop powerhouse nation that won pretty much all the major prizes at the Korean pop music awards last year: Artist of the Year, Modern Rock Song of the Year, Crossover Album of the Year. The seven-member group are on the verge of a major international breakthrough, so it's worth seeing them now, when they're in top form.

Formed in 2019, LEENALCHI is a fresh take on the Korean pansori storytelling genre, which features vocals and drums. Their first album Sugungga (2020), was inspired by and adapted from the verses of a traditional Korean tale Sugungga. The story concerns a South Sea dragon king, a soft-shelled turtle and a cunning hare. The seven-piece band includes four traditional singers who tell the story musically through solos, chorus, rapping and dance. The band has an utterly unique line-up that includes a drummer and two bass players. The band draws inspiration from the new wave music of the eighties, but by taking apart and rearranging traditional elements they have created music that is excitingly forward-looking, whilst also preserving tradition. The musicians are all well-known on the Korean music scene, one of the bassists was previously a member of the indie-rock band Kiha and The Faces, the other played in the equally unconventional SsingSsing, where they crossed Korean folk with glam rock, disco and psychedelic rock. The LEENALCHI drummer also played drums in that band.

This is going to be one of the most unusual, exciting and spectacular concerts of the year—it would be such a mistake miss it!

During the evening, Дeva, Takács Dorina's DIY solo project will be heard for the first time in 30 minutes
