Ukrainian & Hungarian Folk Song Mashup Masterclass

We welcome you to Magyar Zene Háza for a very special Ukrainian / Hungarian Folksong Workshop! Together we will learn and sing Hungarian and Ukrainian songs with simple pronunciation. The event will be led by two wonderful singers and folklorists: special guest Antonina Vinnyk from Ukraine, and Jázmin Takács-Nagy from here in Hungary! All are welcome, but some knowledge of Hungarian or Ukrainian is recommended. Entry is free for all!

Antonina Vinnyk is a folk singer, vocal coach, director of the private Tonique Music School in Kyiv, member of the Ukrainian folk group Zvuchi Dochi, Ukrainian-Celtic band DeRuni, dark folk band Folkulaka, as well as vocalist in several Ukrainian folk metal and irish-punk bands. She is the artistic director of the vocal ensemble Tonic and soloist of the electrofolk project VogueNeCvit (Vognetsvit). Jázmin Takács-Nagy’s wide-ranging musical studies concentrated on folk music after classical music. This year she graduated with honors from the Liszt Ferenc University of Music and Performing Arts with a degree in folk singing, folk zither, coboz, and wind instruments.

In addition to the Tindia orchestra and the Zengő ensemble, she is a singer, instrumentalist and dancer in several musical ensembles, with whom she has performed in Germany, France and Turkey. Since autumn 2018 she has been an artist in the MUS-E programme. In 2019 she won the National Scholarship for Young Talent, and in 2021 she was a mentor in the mentoring programme under the project 'Developing the Talent Alumni Community'. She draws from the complexity, musical language and topicality of folk music and folk dance. It is important for her to unlock and reimagine authentic folk music frameworks and then reintegrate them into everyday life.
