Zsolt Sőrés - Oli Mayne

Sőrés Zsolt has collaborated with many renowned artists of the international avant-garde, from the krautrock ensemble Faust, Katalin Ladik, Richard Barrett, Christian Kobi, Richard Scott, Andrea Parkinson, Liz Allbee, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Franz Hautzinger, Anla Courtis, André Vida, Iancu Dumitrescu's Hyperion Ensemble and many others, to Ernő Király and Inconsolable Ghost (with Hilary Jeffery, Gideon Kiers). He often works with film and video artists, dancers, theatre and visual artists, his main instruments being the five-string viola, electronics and the human voice.

At the heart of Sőrés' experimental music and sound art is a materialistic exploration of sound. His work as a composer and sound artist is based on so-called sound art, "free improvisation in meta-music" (Eddie Prévost) and the further exploration of the possibilities of sonic processes between different media, the creation of abstract acoustic layers that supersede purely intuitive playing, the development of inner virtuosity (meta-repertoires, shaping techniques, microtonality, etc.), as well as unleashing the power of sound to model alternative sonic realities and to create a resonant-dynamic space in constant flux.

Oli Mayne is an experimental vibraphone, electronics and analogue synthesizer player, with an emphasis on intense, physical performances. He first encountered improvisation in a duo with a Brazilian pianist whilst living in Nottingham, England, but got more seriously involved in the experimental side of things after moving to London, his activities there including attending the weekly workshops run by Eddie Prevost of legendary improvisation group AMM. Since moving to Budapest in 2009, he has worked with many Hungarian artists, including András Wahorn, Zsolt Sörés, Balázs Pandi, and even Gábor Presser, as well as dance choreographer Márta Ladjánszki, and performed at most of the notable venues in Budapest including A38, Müpa, and Trafo, as well as across Hungary and the CEE region. Recent projects have included, amongst others, BolcsóMayneKitzinger, Less is More and Noise Flowers. He has been involved in various recordings through the years, including releases on the Glitterhouse, Rise Above, Aural Terrain, Inexhaustible Editions and Prepost Records labels.
